Keeping Canada’s Supply Chains Strong

We are deeply disappointed by the breakdown in trade talks between Canada and the United States and the potential imposition of new tariffs. For decades, our two countries have built one of the most integrated and resilient trading relationships in the world. That relationship supports workers, manufacturers, farmers, retailers, logistics providers, and communities on both sides of the border.

Supply chains do not stop at the border. Canadian and American companies plan production, transportation, inventory, and customer commitments around predictable rules and reliable market access. Sudden tariffs and retaliatory measures create immediate uncertainty, raise costs, delay investment, and put pressure on businesses that are already managing labour constraints, infrastructure challenges, and global volatility.

Canada must respond firmly in defence of its workers, industries, and economic sovereignty. At the same time, every effort should be made to keep essential goods moving, protect critical supply chains, and avoid unnecessary harm to businesses and consumers. Our priority should be stability, transparency, and practical solutions that preserve the competitiveness of North America as a whole.

We urge both governments to return to the table with urgency, with a clear focus on certainty for the people and companies who depend on cross-border trade every day. Canada and the United States are stronger when we build together, trade fairly, and respect the partnership that has long underpinned shared prosperity.

In the days ahead, supply chain leaders will continue working with customers, members, employees, and public officials to keep goods moving, reduce disruption, and advocate for a trading environment that gives businesses the confidence to invest, hire, and grow.
